Baquba (NINA) – A governmental source in Diyala Province said "the Diyala Governor, Abdel Nasser Al Mahdawi, will resume his work tomorrow in Baquba."
The source said, in a statement to NINA "Mahdawi will resume his work in the local administration building in the city of Baquba, after moving to Khanaqine city two months ago and conducting his work from there."
The governor left his office in Baquba and moved to Khanaqine last December on the background of storming the governorate's building by demonstrators protesting against the declaration of Diyala a region. He demanded the central government to provide protection to the building and its Provincial Council and to punish the outlaws.
Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki, last week, gave the Governor three days to resume his work or he would be considered as having resigned.
Political sources in Diyala province yesterday said that discussions were held between the political blocs in the PC to choose a new governor to replace the current one.
they noted that they chose deputy governor Basim Al Samarrae to take over the administrative reins of the province instead of the current governor of Diyala province. /End/
