Baghdad, March 2 / March (Rn) - criticized the Commission on oil and energy in the Iraqi Council of Representatives on Friday the country's oil exports decline for second straight month despite the presence of government plans to increase the rate of export.
The oil marketing company Iraqi government (SOMO) has said on Thursday that Iraq's exports of crude oil fell to 2.014 million barrels per day in February from 2.106 million barrels per day in January January
Exports last month also declined slightly from the previous month.
A member of the Commission on oil and energy Furat al-Shara told the Kurdish news agency (Rn) that "the continued decline in Iraq's oil exports due to administrative problems, technical hinder the process of stability and the promotion of exports of oil in addition to the problems of poor weather conditions as well as political problems in the region."
According to the report of the SOMO, Iraq shipped 1.639 million barrels per day from the southern Basra oil port in February, down from 1.711 million barrels per day in January, while the shipments from the northern fields around Kirkuk, 375 000 barrels per day in February compared with 395 thousand in January.
The report added that the reason for the decline in exports in February is the bad weather around the port of Basra as well as some technical problems in the northern Kirkuk oilfields.
Shara added that "the most prominent problems of the technical and administrative ministry is the need to strengthen the capacity of system piping to lift oil exports especially through Turkey's Ceyhan pipeline in addition to providing additional staff to raise the level of production of oil fields and follow-up field development projects and rehabilitation."
He says, "we recommended the Oil Ministry to follow the clear mechanisms in the disclosure of its imports and on a monthly basis and not to be shortened to some foreign agencies but has not committed to do so for reasons unknown."
Iraq seeks to raise exports to 2.6 million barrels per day during the year, according to the plan included in the budget of the country's financial dependent on oil imports by 95 per cent.
