BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: An Iraqi legislature has called on the government to “account for the elements, who were behind the loss of the ‘Ration Card’, which included food and other essential stuff’s distribution for all Iraqi citizens.”
“Millions of Iraqis are suffering from a lack of food to secure their living.
Other than the name, nothing remains from the Ration Card, after it was transformed into a document, used in the official dealings of citizens,” Legislature Khalid al-Fahdawi from the Center Alliance told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on Sunday.
Fahdawi, also a Member of Iraq’s Waqf (Endowment) Committee, has called on the Iraqi government to “make sure that the materials, contained in the Ration Card, be imported from excellent sources, as well as their diversification, particularly considering that Iraq is expecting its Ramadan Fasting Month.”
The Ration Card, issued after the UN economic boycott, was forced on Iraq and the practicing of the UN Security Council’s Oil-for-Food resolution in the early 1990s, included the free distribution of basic foodstuff, detergents and other necessary material for all Iraqi citizens.
The Ration Card appears to have been neglected by the current Iraqi regime, that was formed after Iraq’s occupation by the U.S.
and Britain in 2003, according to Iraqi press reports.
