BAGHDAD - The Iraqi authorities announced new measures to tighten border control to prevent infiltration of terrorists from Iraq to Syria and preclude activities that run counter to Iraq's policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.

A statement issued by the Iraqi prime minister bureau on Saturday indicated that the Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki discussed with senior Iraqi security officials the control of borders, especially Iraq's borders with Syria.

The statement underlined the importance of adopting the highest level of control on the borders with Syria to prevent any activity that may harm the security of the country or contradict Iraq's policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

The Iraqi prime minister announced in a press statement on Friday that al-Qaeda is moving from Iraq to Syria.
