BAGHDAD - Ismail Hakki
An official source at the Foreign Ministry said the international police Interpol to arrest move for Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir if he plays at the Arab summit scheduled in the capital Baghdad later this month.
The source added «Interpol, according to the agreements concluded by Iraq with the right implementation of the arrest warrants issued by the international courts on Iraqi soil».
The source told the Kurdish news agency on condition of anonymity «Interpol informed us officially his intention arrest of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in the event of arrival to Baghdad to attend a meeting of the Arab summit». The source went on «if Bashir was arrested in Baghdad, Iraq, that will put a great embarrassment to the Arab countries. It will affect the Iraqi-Arab relations ». The source also said «at the same time if Iraq did not allow for the implementation of Interpol arrest warrants, it will affect Iraq's international reputation».
The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Bashir's two years ago on charges of committing genocide in Darfur. And not the Criminal Court, the first permanent international tribunal for war crimes, its own police force and relies on the cooperation of States in the implementation of the warrants along with the international police.
It is said that Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir said Sunday in a statement to the press that the Sudanese «Sudan's government wants to support peace in Iraq, but we are not comfortable with the current situation in which». Bashir added that «the situation in Iraq is comfortable now, and that the Iraqi government is surrounded by concrete walls and this is not a comfortable situation and ideal situation». Between Bashir and that «the Sudan and until this moment did not make a decision after participating in the Arab summit, and that this decision is up to the devices involved in Sudan».
