BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: A statement issued by the Iraqi Republican Gathering described the division of Iraq project as "a dangerous turn that will open regional and international greed," stressing that "the unity of Iraq, as a land and people, is more sacred than any sectarian or ethnic project endeavoring to divide Iraq."
"The division of Iraq project shall be a black spot on those who propagate for it," the secretary general of the Gathering added.
"The talk on regions with sectarian or ethnic divisions will be a stab at the national unified project and a real threat to the future and unity of Iraq," the statement noted.
This statement, and others, are reactions to the statement made by Parliament Speaker Usama Nujaifi during his visit to the U.S., during which he insinuated the possibility of Sunni sect to form their own region due to the government's negligence to their demands.
