BAGHDAD, April 3 (AKnews) – An adviser to the Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama Nujaifi and his guards have been reportedly arrested by Baghdad authorities on terror charges.
A source declining to be named told AKnews that “a security source arrested last night adviser of Parliament Speaker for legislation affairs Ali Ahmed Abbas al-Dlemi and a number of his guards on terro charges”
They were arrested while in Baghdad, he said.
Osama Nujaifi is the second top Sunni official in the Iraqi government after Tariq al-Hashimi, Vice-President, who is wanted for similar charges and is now in Qatar after hiding in Kurdistan Region for months. Hashimi was charged with involvement in 150 attacks against security forces and officials in Baghdad.
Hashimi has rejected the charges and rejected to attend court in Baghdad because, as he said, the courts are politicized by the dominant Shiite authorities.
AKnews was not able to immediately reach Nujaifi’s office for a comment on the incident.
