BAGHDAD, April 3 (AKnews) - Despite a proposal to end Erbil-Baghdad tensions over Kurdistan oil exports, the sooner the hydrocarbon bill is passed, the sooner the tensions will resolve, remarked an MP from the Oil and Energy Committee.

Two days ago, Kurdistan Region announced it will freeze its oil exports of 175,000 barrels per day until Baghdad pays the dues owed to investing companies in its oil sector, for ten months.

The Deputy Prime Minister for the Energy Affairs, Hussein al-Sharistani, responded yesterday by warning Erbil about cutting a partition of its budget if the oil export was suspended.

MP Furat al-Shara, said his Oil and Energy committee has proposed a solution to the crisis between Baghdad and Erbil over Kurdistan oil exports.

The proposal, he said, concentrates on "not exposing the disputes to the media but rather forming a tripartite committee from Kurdistan presidential office, Baghdad government and the Oil and Energy Committee, to solve the disputes."

The Committee will investigate, among other issues, the remarks by Shahristani over smuggling Kurdistan oil to Turkey and Iran through Kurdistan controlled border points, according to Shara.

But, he noted, "the best solution" for the oil crisis between Baghdad and Erbil is "to speed up the ratification of the hydrocarbon bill."
