BAGHDAD, April 7 (AKnews) - The Kurdish Blocs Coalition (KBC) said today that it has "accurate" information that the Iraqi judiciary issued an arrest warrant against Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi before he left Baghdad for the Kurdistan Region.
The bloc demanded those who criticized the region and its leaders to ask the Iraqi judiciary the reason for not arresting Hashemi in Baghdad.
Vice chairman of the KBC Mohsen al-Saadoun said: "Everyone knows that negotiations took place two or three hours before Hashemi's [departure] for Baghdad airport and then Hashemi was allowed to leave the airport."
He questioned why the judiciary allowed Hashemi to leave Baghdad after the issuance of an arrest warrant against him.
"There's information about the arrest of several members of Hashemi's protection two days before his departure from Baghdad to the Kurdistan Region. The detainees confessed to committing acts related to terrorism under Hashemi's direction. Then why was Hashemi allowed to travel to the region?"
Saadoun said the KBC has the name of the head of the judiciary who issued the arrest warrant against Hashemi, but refused to reveal the details.
On November 28 last year a car blew up in front of the Council of Representatives. After the bombing, the Iraqi Interior Ministry presented the confessions of three of Hashemi's guards in which they stated that the VP had assigned them to carry out assassinations and detonate explosive devices from 2009 onwards.
The Interior Ministry pledged to offer all of the confessions of the VP's guards after the completion of investigations.
The Iraqi judiciary issued an arrest warrant against Hashemi on charges of supporting terrorism. Hashemi denied the charges and demanded of transferal of his case to courts in the Kurdistan Region.
The security and defense committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives said previously that the committee created to investigate the circumstances of the bombing of the Council of Representatives will reveal the party that allowed the car to enter the Green Zone.
