Spokesperson: No change in Hashemi's trail date

BAGHDAD, April 20 (AKnews)- The Supreme Judicial Council has not deferred the trail of Vice President Tareq Hashemi and it remains May 3, council spokesperson said.
"There is no change in the date… the court will decide whether to pronounce the verdict or to postpone it or to acquit him [Hashemi]," said Abdul-Sattar Beyraqdar.
VP is charged with involvement in more than 150 cases of attacks and bombings against officials, politicians, civilians and security forces.
After Karkh Court issued an arrest order for Hashemi he fled to the Iraqi Kurdistan region where regional president, Massoud Barzani, supported him and refused to submit him to Baghdad.
Hashemi has called the evidence against him fabricated and accused Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki of politicizing the court against him.
The reinstated VP leads the Renewal Front at Iraqiya List, led by PM's elections rival Ayad Allawi.
Iraqiya which now seems to enjoy the support of Kurds is endeavoring to settle Hashemi's issue in an expected meeting of the political leaders. However, it has been more than two months the leaders are trying to agree on an agenda for the meeting.
Kurds' support for Hashemi and a number of suspended files as well as provoking statements by Erbil and Baghdad officials strained relations between the regional and federal governments.
Hashemi's recent visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey while he had travel sanctions as well as his decision to stay in Turkey has further deteriorated the situation.
