Iraq launches plan for economic development to reduce the poverty rate to 16 percent

Baghdad, May 10 / May (Rn) - Iraq launched Thursday a draft development plan for the years 2013 to 2017 in a bid to boost the economic reality and reduce the poverty rate to 16 percent.
The new plan focuses on improving the gross domestic product, which has suffered years of neglect, international sanctions and violence. Iraq relies mainly on imports.
U.S. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning Mahdi Keywords during a conference in Baghdad that were reviewed previous plans to cope with the new changes in the country through economic growth.
"There is a positive improvement in some aspects of economic growth and increased oil revenues, but on the other hand there are challenges associated with the development of other sectors and the development of the economy."
He went on Keywords in the conference which was attended by ministers, "There is also an improvement in the performance of the agricultural sector and has been limited. There is an improvement in the manufacturing industry."
Among the plan a strategy for poverty alleviation. And he said: "By the end of poverty in 2014 would fall from 23 to 16 percent."
"This plan must occur down off of poverty perhaps to less than 10 percent," as he said:.
In turn, the oil minister, Abdul Karim and coffee, told the Kurdish news agency (Rn) after the conference that the plan is an extension of the previous 2010-2014 plan, but took into account the great changes that have occurred in the oil sector, which is the basis for the budget.
The total budget for Iraq for the current year $ 100 billion.
He pointed to the coffee that his ministry has provided updated figures on production, export and revenue that will be realized during the next five years to depend heavily on the new development plan.
