UN representative to Iraq visits Iran to discuss regional issues

Baghdad (AIN) –United Nations Secretary General Ban KI-moon's Special Representative for Iraq, Martin Kobler, stated that the negotiations that he conducted during his visit to Iran were successful.
UN News Center cited in a press statement received by AIN on Friday "Kobler visited Iran in the framework of the United Nations Assistant Missioin to Iraq (UNAMI)."
"Kobler visited Asfahan city first because of the history and culture of Iran then he met the Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salihi in addition to some high officials," the statement added.
"Kobler discussed many regional issues related to the stability of the region and the peaceful development where the UN helps the two countries to eliminate the sand storms, remove the mines and running the water distribution," the statement pointed out.
The statement quoted Kobler, as saying "Iran plays a vital role in the region," adding that "I came to Tehran to hear the opinions of the Iranian government over the important issues between Iraq and Iran which can help UNAMI to support both countries. The discussions were successful and I do appreciate the Iranian government for the good hospitality." /End/
