BAGHDAD, May 11 (AKnews)- Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki should reveal the letter he claims Iraqiya List has sent to Arab leaders in order to ask them not to participate in Arab Summit in Baghdad, said an Iraqiya MP.
During an interview with the semi-official Iraqiya TV, Maliki said he has a copy of the letter whereby Iraqiya bloc leader Ayad Allawi warns Arab leaders that their participation in Baghdad Summit [which was held late March] would mean their support for Maliki against Allawi.
Allawi did not send any letters to the Arab leaders to dissuade them for Arab Summit in Bagdad, said Hadi al-Dhalemi, the spokesperson for National Accord Front, led by Allawi.
Dhalemi said "we earlier officially demanded the Arab League to reveal such a letter if it was sent by us."
He wondered what the obstacle is for Maliki in not reveal ing that letter for the public, considering that Iraqiya List "officially announced it is willing to discuss the internal issues of the country with the Arab leaders [in Baghdad Summit].
"This was out official stance."
Dhalemi thought Maliki's remark over possessing such a letter is only "an attempt to divert the public attention from the real crisis the country is now going through."
Disputes between Maliki's State of Law Coalition (SLC) and Iraqiya on the one hand and Baghdad and Erbil governments on the other hand have created a serious crisis in the country. Political leaders have been trying in the past three months to hold a conference to overcome this crisis.
Replacing Maliki is an option highly considered these days while the PM, as some political leaders have put it, leans more towards "a unilateral decision making."
