A good article; but my question is, how much influence does the US govt have in the affairs of the Iraq' goverment decisions concerning their government? In that the US has spent $ and more importantly LIVES over there and our government has monetary ivestments also

The US definitely has a "vested interest" in Iraq, that is for certain. The US has seen to it that some officials have the post they do, namely Shabibi. IMO, there's no way the US, along with other global powers will sit silently if Iraq gives the appearance of self-imploding.
