ERBIL, May 20 (AKnews) - The Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani has urged Iraq's MPs to accelerate the ratification process of Iraq's oil and gas draft law, adding that Iraqis should get benefit from the country's natural resources.
Barzani spoke about Kurdistan's oil policy and Iraq's situation at the first practical international energy conference, which kicked off today in Erbil.
The PM said: "We hope that Iraq's natural resources bring happiness to all Iraqis… We can use energy for people's welfare, not for war and making the life poorer and worse."
Turkish Energy Minister Fener Yeldiz's visit to the Kurdistan region is an indication of the strong tie between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Turkey, added Barzani.
Turkey is the biggest partner and investor in the region and the Kurdish-Turkish tie has entered the energy phase, said the PM.
"With our commitment to Iraq's constitution, we will continue in investing in the oil and gas sector.
"In the last five years, we had rational and logical moves in the oil and gas sector in the region and our proof is the region's development."
Yeldiz is also attending the energy conference, which is held at Erbil's Sad Abdullah Hall.
