ERBIL, May 20 (AKnews)- Head of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar Hakim said only the Iraqi House of Representatives can withdraw confidence from the current government.
As the tensions between the political parties escalate, some major forces threaten Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki with withdrawing confidence from his government. Maliki's bloc, the National Alliance (NA), also threaten with forming the majority government.
Speaking at a press conference in Baghdad today, Hakim said "the majority government is not the solution because its formation means sidelining some other parties in the administration of the state.
"The government cannot be stripped off its confidence now by meetings in the cities but by the House of Representatives."
Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani has met with Iraqiya leaders Ayad Allawi and Osama al-Nujaifi twice in Erbil. In the first meeting more than two weeks ago they set a 15-day deadline for Maliki to stop his "unilateral" ruling and decision-making. In the meeting yesterday they also reiterated the same position.
Hakim said "the weakness of the political relations does not mean that at a stage one should resort to other options."
He invited all the parties to participate in an expected national conference of the political leaders so that all the suspended issues are resolved through dialog.
