ERBIL, May 23 (AKnews)- Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has submitted his resignation letter to Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani so that the latter uses it as a pressure card when necessary, according to Hawlati newspaper.
The Kurdish paper cited Kurdistan Prime Minister saying that Talabani's aim is to show his support for Kurdish position against Baghdad and the unanimity of his party with Barzani 's party and Kurdish people.
Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Talabani's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are strategic allies as ruling parties in the Kurdistan Region.
During the interview with Hawlai which will be published in full tomorrow, PM Barzani said that Iraqi president " with all his authorities supports the views of the Region [Kurdistan] against Baghdad."
Barzani and Talabani met with major Iraqi leaders in Erbil recently. During the meeting the parties set a deadline for Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki to end his "unilateral" decision-making, otherwise, they warned they will arrange for withdrawing confidence from his government.
Sadr Current Leader Muqtada Sadr and Iraqiya List Leader Ayad Allawi were among the leaders who met with Barzani. All the three have labeled Maliki as a "dictator", indirectly or explicitly.
