BAGHDAD, June 4 (AKnews) - The Ahrar bloc said today that the political committee of the Sadrist Movement met yesterday and decided to support cleric Moqtada al-Sadr on withdrawing confidence from the current government.
Iraqiya List, the Kurdish Blocs Coalition (KBC) and the Sadrists said they handed over the signatures of MPs, demanding the withdrawal of confidence from the government, to the Kurdistan Region's presidency office.
Iraqiya says that it expects PM Nouri al-Maliki to resign from his position before the vote on his dismissal, but this was denied by sources close to Maliki.
One of the Sadrist Movement's leaders Amir al-Kanani said: "Now President Jalal Talabani must act after the delivery of the the signatures of political blocs to withdraw the confidence."
Maliki's critics say that dealing with him became politically impossible and replacing him has become a popular and political demand. But the State of Law Coalition (SLC) believes there is a regional plan led by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, adopted by the political blocs, that aims to divide Iraq.
