BAGHDAD, June 5 (AKnews) - The Iraq parliament's finance committee stated today that it had sent two proposals to the Iraqi Finance Ministry about the implementation of the customs law, adding that the application of the law will allow Iraq to enter the World Trade Organization.
Committee member Haitham al-Jabbouri said: "We have proposed exempting certain essential food or clothing goods and the second proposal stated on the application of ascending taxes on other goods that poor families are not interested in.
"If these two proposals were applied then there would be a control on the Iraqi market and inflation would be reduced."
Jabbouri added: "The application of the customs law is one of the economic needs of the state to enter the World Trade Organization (WTO) where its conditions include the application of the customs law in addition to the protection of national products."
The Finance Ministry decided in March to apply the customs law at the end of June after it was postponed more than once last year.
The new customs law states on canceling the old law put in place by the civil administrator of Iraq after 2003, Paul Bremer, which states on paying a tax of five percent on all goods entering the country.
