Shafaq News / Iraq announced Wednesday that Thursday will be a holiday to mark the death of Imam Hussein.
The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers said in a statement received by "Shafaq News", that "it was decided that Thursday will be an official holiday in official departments to mark the death of Imam Hussein."
"The ministers and governors have the right to exclude their formations from the holiday to provide services to citizens,” he added.
Thursday marks the 40th day after the prophet's successor Imam Hussein Ibn Ali was martyred in the seventh century, where the heads of millions of pilgrims mostly go on foot to visit his shrine in Karbala.
