Said British Trade Minister Lord Green after meeting with local officials in Basra said his government is seeking to encourage British companies to implement projects in the province.
The British official that the closure of the consulate there does not mean declining interest the British government in Basra and nearby provinces, and added that the important relationship between the two countries "and we are working to develop and attract more companies will contribute to the economic development of Iraq."
The governor called Khalaf Abdul Samad British government to re-open its consulate, and pointed out that the local government is planning to open its representative office in the British city of Aberdeen.
It is noteworthy that many of the British companies implementing projects in Basra, including the company (BP), which holds develop the Rumaila field, which is one of the largest oil fields in Iraq, but the British government closed its consulate in the province late last year for financial reasons.
