Baghdad, August 1 / August (Rn) - The Iraqi government said on Monday that its counterpart Kuwaiti shown flexibility to resolve the crisis at the port of Mubarak through dialogue such as the expected visit of the technical committee Iraq to Kuwait in order to know the details of construction of the port, which objects to Baghdad, he says it affects waterway in the Persian Gulf.
Kuwait has rejected Iraq's request last Wednesday to halt work at the port of Mubarak Al-Kabeer, and said that work is continuing on schedule, planned, and stated that the Iraqi request to stop work is surprising, and not based on any legal basis.
The refusal came after the Kuwaiti government demanded that the Iraqi Kuwait officially stop work on the project of building the port of Mubarak, the while making sure that the rights of Iraq in the shared water will not be affected by this port.
A media adviser to Prime Minister Ali al-Moussawi, told the Kurdish news agency (Rn) that "the Kuwaiti Prime Minister expressed his country's desire to solve the crisis through the Port Mubarak dialogue and understanding, so that does not affect the port location on the economy of movement and traffic of Iraq."
"The Iraqi government will send a technical committee to discuss with the Kuwaiti side and show the negative consequences left by the Port of Mubarak the Great in the event constructed in its current location."
He said, "al-Maliki had contact with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Nasser al-Sabah and discussed with him ways of ending the crisis between the two port Mubarak."
He called on Iraq to Kuwait days before the cooperation between the two sides through the Iraqi in charge of following up this issue by providing the information required to access the position preserves the rights of Iraq and its people.
Baghdad has also expressed concern about the establishment of the port "in the absence of adequate information and data to assure that the interests of the government of Iraq does not hurt in the maritime rights ... and according to the rules of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
He said Iraqi Transport Minister Hadi al-Amiri in the sixth of July that the Iraqi government to take "all diplomatic means, mental and logical to prevent the build (port) Mubarak" in its present position, indicating that the proportion of work which amounted to 14 percent.
Kuwait had been placed in April / April the foundation stone for the construction of the port, "Mubarak the Great" in the Bubiyan Island, which lies in the far north-west Persian Gulf.
Experts say that the Iraqis build a port would lead to "strangle" the only sea port of Iraq, because it will cause in making the Kuwaiti coast extending to a distance of 500 km, while the Iraqi coast confined to an area of 50 km.
Some believe that this file is possible to restore the tension between the neighbors, having seen the relations between Baghdad and Kuwait, which was the gate to cross the U.S. troops to Iraq in 2003, a significant improvement in the past few years, though the survival of pending issues between them.
