Defense Ministry resolves retirement of leaders in Baath Party

Shafaq News / Iraqi Defense Ministry stated on Monday, that it has completed an order for Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki to refer about 13 thousand employees of the security agencies and civilian departments
in the era of the former regime to retirement, including members of the national leadership and leaders in the outlawed Baath party.
The Iraqi government has already approved the amendments weeks ago on the Justice and Accountability Law which eased the ban on filling senior leaders of the Baath Party to government positions to benefit from pension rights.
The government amendments faced the rejection of the political blocs, including Mwaten (citizen) bloc affiliated to the Islamic Supreme Council headed by, Ammar al-Hakim and Ahrar bloc of the Sadrist movement led by Muqtada al-Sadr.
While State of Law coalition led by al-Maliki tried to pass a law criminalizing Baath Party members, which was led by Saddam Hussein.
The Ministry statement reported that the retirement included individuals working in departments of, “Public Security , Special Security Service , President's Office , Private bodyguards , intelligence service , Intelligence , national leadership and leaders in Baath party) who were included by the decisions of the Supreme National Commission for Accountability and Justice in referring them to retirement “.
“We sent the transactions to the national pension body for the purpose of paying pension rights for those included in it,” the ministry added.
According to the table inserted by the ministry that included numbers of each department, 69 of them were from the national leadership and leader of Baath Party, including offices while the rest were civilians.
505 of private guards, including 10 officers and one civilian as well as 494 of high ranks, 2093 of the former Office of the President, including one only of the high ranks and the rest were civilians also included with the decision.
It also included 3026 of private security, including 13 officers and 108 of the high ranks and the rest were civilians.
The included number from private security was 5809 and 23 from intelligence.
The former Iraqi security services were dissolved by an order of the American civil governor, Paul Bremer after the invasion of the country by international forces led by Washington in 2003.
The Iraqi government returned tens of thousands of them to the service in previous years on groups form of those who were not included in De-Bathification procedures and sent tens of thousands of others to retirement.
