KUWAIT, June 2 (KUNA) -- The UK-Kuwait Joint Steering Group (JSG) held its second meeting in Kuwait Sunday with the primary aim of boosting cooperation between the two countries. The meeting was chaired by Kuwait Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Khaled Suleiman Al-Jarrallah and UK Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East and North Africa Alistair Burt.

The meeting also touched upon stances on regional developments and issues of common concern. The JSG also followed up on the wide range of agreements and projects signed between the two countries during His Highness the Amir's Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's state visit to the UK in November, 2012.

The participants underlined the importance of increasing economic, investment and military cooperation to reflect the deeply-rooted and strong relations between the two countries. They also discussed the participation of British companies in mega projects underlined in Kuwait's ambitious development plan.

The meeting mulled more expansion to the fruitful cooperation between educational and healthcare institutions in Kuwait and the UK.

Meanwhile, the two sides welcomed the Iraqi government's move to implement its commitments to Kuwait as per relevant UN resolutions to remove itself from UN Chapter VII.

On the ongoing Syrian crisis, the conferees lauded the efforts exerted by the Kuwaiti and UK governments to help find a peaceful solution to the crisis and to ease the suffering of the people displaced as a result of the conflict. On Iran's nuclear plans, both sides urged Tehran to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to address doubts over the purpose of its nuke program.

The talks went on to approve a plan of action to follow up on the implementation of the meeting's outcome, with a next session scheduled in London in December, 2013. (end)
