Modhir al-Janabi, a member of the parliament Security and Defense Committee, has said the lifting of UN Chapter VII sanctions on Iraq provides an opportunity to restore the country’s ability to manufacture weapons.
He told AIN:
“After being relieved from the UN sanctions, Iraq can renew this industry to manufacture weapons which would help reduce the expenses of the importation as Iraq has good experience in this industry.
“Iraq has the funds, proficiencies and all requirements in [the] field of manufacturing weapons so it is a good idea to rehabilitate the relevant plants or establish new ones.“
Meanwhile, Ali al-Moussawi, the media adviser for Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki, said that Baghdad would welcome increased arms sales and U.S. training teams to help it confront rising regional instability and terrorist threats.
