Zebari, Feltman discuss Iraq's relations with the UN, efforts to hold Geneva II for peace in Syria

Baghdad (NINA) – Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, discussed on Monday, Aug. 19, with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, Iraq's relations with the UN and its mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the two discusses also the activities of UN mission in Iraq, and the Keenness of Iraqi Government and Foreign Ministry to facilitate the Mission's work, with its UN mandate and its coordination with the Government.

They also discussed regional and international developments, as well as the efforts aiming to hold Geneva II Conference for Peace in Syria, in addition to the upcoming nuclear talks between the Security Council and Germany, on one side and Iran, on the other.

The statement pointed out that Zebari expressed the Government's gratitude for the efforts of UN's Secretariat in getting Iraq out of Chapter VII mandate, and Iraq's fulfillment of its international commitments.

At the end of the meeting, Zebari welcomed the UN Secretary General naming his new representative to Iraq (UNAMI). / End.
