Joint US-Iraq Communiqué issued at the end of Maliki's visit to Washington

Baghdad (NINA) – The United States and Iraq affirmed their strategic partnership promising to carry on their joint interests to support stability, security and prosperity in Iraq and the Middle East.
In a joint communiqué issue at the end of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki official visit to the United States, the two countries stressed the commitment to consolidate their cooperation in accordance with the Strategic Frame Agreement; according to a statement issued on Saturday, Nov. 2, by the Prime Minister's Office.
The statement said that Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki concluded a successful and important visit to the United States, in which he held thorough talks with US President Barak Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and a number of American officials.
It pointed out that Obama and Maliki stressed the strategic partnership between Iraq and the United states, promising to push ahead with their joint interests to support stability, security and prosperity in Iraq and the Middle East; they also discussed their joint commitment to consolidate their cooperation in accordance with the Strategic Frame Agreement.
After meeting with President Obama, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and US Vice President Joe Biden held a meeting of the High Coordination Committee, which is its fourth since it was formed in 2008, in accordance with the Strategic Frame Agreement.
Regarding regional integration, the American and Iraqi sides discussed the status of Iraq being a democratic growing country in the area, a major energy producer and a country with ethnical and religious diversity.
As for combating the pro Qaeda groups, the two delegations exchanged their evaluation of the pro Qaeda groups threatening Iraq, especially the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
Both sides praised Iraqi Parliament's recent decision that general election be held not later than 30 April 2014.
The two sides welcomed chances to expand their cooperation in the field of energy, including steps to be adopted by the Joint Coordination Committee related to energy in early 2014.
The two sides welcomed the increasing number of American firms having commercial business in Iraq
As for Syria, both delegations expressed support to the Geneva II meeting and the ongoing efforts exerted to reach a diplomatic solution to the fighting in Syria.
The two sides expressed their commitment to increase the number of Iraqi students studying in the United States, in addition to increase relations between both countries' academic institutions. / End.
