United Nations: 70 thousand Iraqis displaced from Anbar due to military operations

Shafaq News / The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) revealed on Wednesday , that the number of displaced people from Anbar province due to military operations reached 70 thousand people,
referring to the arrival of 12 trucks to aid Fallujah neighborhoods .
“The United Nations agencies and Iraqi Department of Immigration estimated the number of displaced people from Anbar due to lack of security to 70 thousand people, mostly escaped from Fallujah and Ramadi ,” UNHCR spokesman , Adrian Edwards said in a press statement briefed by " Shafaq News “.
He added that the United Nations began to provide aid to affected communities since 8 of current January , most recently was the arrival of 12 trucks of non-food relief yesterday to several neighborhoods in Fallujah .
He said , that bad security conditions is hindering the arrival of aid , noting that the displacement of Anbar has affected several areas in the country and that UNHCR is currently to coordinate with the regional government of Kurdistan in the assessment of , and provide immediate assistance and establish sites required to house the displaced people .
Security operations are being carried out by the Iraqi army in Anbar province since about three weeks while gunmen holed up in some areas of Ramadi and Fallujah cities as police forces and the tribes are fighting them to expel the militants.
These events increased the fears of the local population and prompted many of them to resort to neighboring provinces including Karbala and other areas.
