Kurdistan Region: Following Baghdad sanctions on KRG and not receiving share of Iraqi budget, KRG will not afford celebrating many of March events and festivals due to lack of budget, including the 1991 Uprising which started in Ranya.
Raparin administration announced that 2014 celebration of the uprising will not be funded by Kurdistan Regional Government, but there will be other activities on March 5.
Abdul Hammed Abdullah, Raparin administrator told PUKmedia, “As the Iraqi government has not yet sent KRG`s share of 2014 Budget, KRG is currently witnessing an economic crisis and will not be able to provide us with the celebration budget."
The 1991 Uprising which broke out from Ranya was conducted by the local people with the help of Peshmerga. The Uprising continued until all the cities of Kurdistan Region were freed, including Kirkuk on March 20.
