Iraqi Kurdistan PM in Ankara to hold talks over regional issues
ANKARA,— The Prime Minister of Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani arrived in Turkey Thursday night to hold talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and other high-level Turkish authorities over the latest regional developments, energy issues, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tanju Bilgiç has announced on Thursday, daily Sabah reported. Turkey's allowing the passage of Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces in a move to help Syrian Kurdish fighters battling the Islamic State group IS in Syrian Kurdistan, According to close sources, the meeting between Davutoglu and Barzani is expected to take place on Dec. 19 in Istanbul. In November, Davutoglu paid a two-day official visit to Iraq and Kurdistan Region to hold talks with Iraqi central government Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi as well as Barzani. Iraqi Kurdistan Region relations with Turkey has been fostered in the last few years, with Turkey being the biggest trade partner for the region. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu announced in early November, that Turkey allowed KRG Peshmerga forces to enter Kobani of Syrian Kurdistan from Turkey in accordance with the Oct. 2 troop mandate to show Ankara's continued effort to break the IS siege of Kobani. Its also expected that Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi will follow Barzani and will pay a visit to Turkey on Dec. 25-26.
