Iraq and Shell sign a global contract to create complex "beacon" Petrochemical in Basra

BASRA - ((eighth day)) Iraq on Wednesday signed a contract with Shell International to set up a huge petrochemical plant in Basra province. The Minister of Industry and Minerals Naseer al-Issawi said during a press conference, "Royal Dutch Shell signed Atakkaka worth $ 11 billion with Iraq to build a petrochemical complex in Basra." Issawi said that "complex" beacon "Petrochemical will make Iraq the largest producer of petrochemicals in the Middle East." It was not immediately expected output of the complex size unclear, but is expected to start operation of the complex within five to six years. Shell, one of the major producers of oil in southern Iraq and had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Industry on the project in 2012. The prime minister Haider al-Abadi, revealed last Friday, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, for "signing a contract with Shell to build a petrochemical plant."
