The United Nations warns of an impending humanitarian crisis in southern Iraq

The world food programme warned Tuesday of an impending humanitarian crisis in southern Iraq, where tens of thousands have fled the conflict in the country.
The program said that the situation in the provinces of Najaf, Karbala, Babil is up to critical levels because of the influx of people fleeing the violence in other parts of the country, and no longer have the means to support themselves. He said the programme of the United Nations from its headquarters in Rome that assists 50,000 families homeless in Basrah, Dhi Qar, Maysan, Wassit, Qadissiya, Muthanna, Najaf, Karbala and Babil.
Many of these live in unoccupied public buildings or mosques, they spent their savings to safer southern areas.
Spokeswoman for Agence France-Presse, saying: «the people who receive subsidies fully accredited and become more vulnerable. '' She added: "Although the situation is currently under control because we feed people, but we are afraid not to be able to continue this aid after the funding in March, after which they will be left alone in the absence of any form of systematic assistance of food and other basic humanitarian needs."
The warning comes as the international programme following a recent assessment of the situation and showed that many families are unable to determine the source of the following her meal.
Among those interviewed during the research Najat Hussin, 36, a mother of six children, she lost her husband by 7 months in Tal Afar and moved to Karbala. International program assistance include the distribution of basic foods such as flour, rice, cooking oil and noodles for families found places near temporary asylum, as well as emergency supplies to people who are still on the move, distribute food stamps in the regions to support local economies. He said the program provided food assistance to approximately 1.4 million people in Iraq in 2014.
