Ban Ki-moon Appoints New UN Representative In Iraq

The Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon announced the appointment of the former Foreign Minister of Slovakia / Jan Kubis / as his special representative in Iraq and Head of the Mission of the United Nations to help Iraq / UNAMI / to change the current representative Nikolai Miladinov.
Estefan Dogrec, Spokesman for the Secretary General said in a statement that "the Secretary-General expressed his gratitude to Miladinov for the period he spent in Iraq, which has seen the most important political and security developments in the country."
He said, "Jan Kubis succeeds Bulgarian Nikolai Miladinov as Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Iraq, and the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq / UNAMI / who was appointed special coordinator for the peace process in the Middle East, succeeding Dutchman Robert Serry."
He explained, "Jan Kubis will bring with him the experience of many years of work in the diplomatic field, foreign and security policy and international economic relations both at the international level, or in his country Slovakia". Without determines the start date of its mission.
It is mentioned that the new representative of the Secretary-General in Iraq, Jan Kubis served as secretary general of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe from 1999 to 2005 and Slovak Foreign Minister from 2006 to 2009 and also the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, in the period from 2009 to 2011, finally has served as Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan from 2012 to 2014.
