Iraq to increase daily oil supply to Jordan, says PM
Amman, June 1 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit said Wednesday that Iraq has agreed to increase the volume of daily oil supply to Jordan from 10,000 barrels to 15,000 barrels, with plans to increase the quantity to 30,000 barrels a day.
Bakhit was speaking to reporters after he returned home from Iraq following a one-day visit, during which he held talks with his Iraqi Counterpart Nouri Maliki and Iraqi Vice President Tariq Hashemi on bilateral ties and means to develop them.
Bakhit and Maliki co-chaired meetings of the sixth session of the Joint Jordanian-Iraqi Higher Committee, which convened in Baghdad today.
The premier said that the visit was "fruitful and positive". The committee's meetings, he said, saw extension of an agreement to supply Jordan with oil.
Bakhit noted that the two sides agreed to increase trade exchange, through removing all obstacles hindering flow of goods. The two sides also agreed to increase the number of Iraqis who wish to receive treatment at Jordanian hospitals.
About 20,000 Iraqi patients are expected to arrive in Jordan this year, Bakhit said, vowing to present all facilitations for them.
