An Iranian energy official said the country will start exporting natural gas to neighboring Iraq on a regular basis as early as May, and raised the possibility for exports to Kuwait via Iraq.
Shana quoted Managing-Director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Hamid-Reza Araqi as saying that Iran will start transferring gas to Iraq at the end of the next Iranian month, sometime around May 21.
“The gas exports to Iraq will begin with 5 to 7 million cubic meters a day, and will reach 25 million cubic meters ultimately,” he explained.
Iranian and Iraqi oil ministers on July 21, 2013, signed the first deal to transfer Iran’s natural gas to two Iraqi power plants.
According to the deal, Iran supplies Al-Baghdad and Al-Mansouriyah power plants in Iraq with 25 mcm per day of natural gas.
Elsewhere, the Iranian official pointed to the possibility of exporting gas to Kuwait via Iraq, saying such project can be implemented after an agreement.
