Shafaq News / MP , Aliya Nassif denounced on Sunday what she described as inhumane in dealing with the demonstrators in Basra province, who demanded the improvement of electricity services.
"The bullet that killed Basra’s son is a bullet directed to the Iraqi constitution, which guarantees the right to demonstrate for all Iraqis,” She said in a statement received by Shafaq News.
She wondered " With any guilt , a citizen who demands for the most basic necessities of life is being killed? Would the response be by a hail of bullets on the demonstrators rather than providing services to them?" She said, "we used to curse the former regime that prevented protesting, who are we cursing today , as we are supposed to move to the democratic stage "?
Nassif called to "the need to conduct an investigation into this incident to see defaulters and those involved in attacking the demonstrators and law enforcement to get their punishment due to what they have done from shedding the blood of their brothers."
The local government in Basra province announced last Friday that it would investigate the circumstances of the death of a young demonstrator during angry protests that took place in some areas northern the province accompanied by clashes with security forces due to the bad electricity condition .
