MP, of the Iraqi forces coalition, Abdel Athim Ajman, called Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to speed up transferring powers from the central government to the local government in Basra.
He said in a press conference today: “because of the recent painful repercussions for all the sons of Basra, I add my voice to the MPs of Basra demanding to transfer powers from the central government to the local government.”
He added: “The prime minister committed himself, in front of the House of Representatives, in the fifteenth of the next August as a deadline for transferring powers to local governments,” calling Abadi to start from Basra, the first province to be granted with full powers, especially of the service ministries.
Ajman called on people in Basra to restraint and do not to be dragged behind of those who are trying to create chaos in the province, and to demand their full rights, but in a civilized manner.
Basra has seen unrest and demonstrations because of the deterioration of electricity coinciding with the high temperature that exceeded 50 degrees Celsius, the police intervened and fired into the air to disperse the demonstrators, killing one of the demonstrators and wounding two others. /
