Iraqi railway staffs threaten to stop the movement of trains

The Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation’s staff in the federal government gave one day to back down from the decision to cut their monthly salaries as a self-financing institution, or to resort to sit-in and stop the movement of trains. The vehicles inspector’s official in the Directorate , Jassim Fazaa told Shafaq News” that “The railway staff totaling more than 5000 employees have not received their monthly salaries for current July, which was supposed to be received before Eid holiday," adding that "the Ministry of Finance Company reported not to pay salaries for the coming months to be considered as self-financing institution. " He added that "the railway company doesn’t make any financial resources able to pay employees' salaries, and the various ministries does not grant contracts for railway company for the transport of goods from the port of Basra to the rest of the provinces." He said that "the staff of the company will give one day for the Ministry of Finance to back down on its decision and the disposal of employees' salaries, otherwise we will resort to sit-in and demonstration on Wednesday, on various railway lines and stop the progress of the trains movement
