BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq: An agreement, signed between Iraq and the Royal Dutch Shell Company and the Japanese Mitsubishi Company recently, shall produce huge quantities of gas from 4 of southern Iraq's oil fields, the Executive Chairman of Shell Company reported on Tuesday.
"Our joint project shall collect and treat crude gas from southern Iraq's Zubair, Rumeila, West-Qurna and Majnoun Oil Fields, that would become the first gas-producing market in Iraq, along with possibility to export Iraqi gas abroad," Mr.
Foster told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
He said that "millions of cubic feet of gas are being burnt in southern Iraq every day, prices of which exceed billions (b) of US dollars annually, along with the fact that its burning would increase the heat-producing gases, equal to the gases, exhausted by millions of cars annually."
Iraq's Council of Ministers had promulgated an agreement with Royal Dutch Shell and Mitsubishi Companies to build a joint project for the collection of gas from 4 of Iraq's main oil feilds, aimed at gathering an important source for energy, to be used in local consumption in Iraq and to prepare possibilities for exporting gas abroad.
The project for the establishment of Basra Gas Company, a joint company, with limited liability, has been reached between Iraq's Southern Gas Company and both Shell and Mitsubishi Companies, for the collection of crude gas, that is being burnt nowadays, due to the absence of a proper gas-production policy in this respect.
