Iraq wants to expand tertiary level studies and education on petroleum and oil sciences, according to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ali al-Adeeb.
Adeeb made the remarks following a meeting with Royal Dutch Shell’s vice-President Hans Nijkamp.
The company is actively involved in developing oil fields and upgrading the country’s oil industry.
Adeeb said he and Nijkamp discussed “cooperation and contribution (from Shell) to the preparation of faculty for the oil and gas university which we are setting up in Qurna in the Province of Basra.”
Adeeb said it was important that oil majors like Shell were not only concerned with the extraction and development of oil.
“They should contribute to the country’s pursuits to develop its own industry,” he said.
