The Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee revealed, on
Tuesday (August 11, 2020), a plan to invest associated gas during the next phase, while it indicated approaching international companies to invest associated gas.
Committee member Sadiq Al-Sulaiti said, in a statement to Al-Sabah newspaper, that "the committee had previously called on Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to pay attention to the accompanying gas file, as Iraq cannot take one step if it does not focus on this important file and stops the waste of this wealth."
He added, "Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar has formed a committee and is awaiting completion of the full study of associated gas investment."
Al-Sulaiti pointed out that "the ministry has opened international companies and is awaiting approval for gas investment, provided that its work appears in a realistic way during the next six months."
A member of the committee held "former oil ministries responsible for wasting billions of dollars by burning gas in the air and focusing on extracting oil wealth and selling crude only."
