Al-Sudani issues a directive on the water desalination project in Basra

Prime minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani issued, on Thursday, a directive related to the desalination project in Basra.
The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (WA), that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani chaired, on Thursday, a special meeting on the desalination project to provide drinking water in Basra, including the governor of Basra, undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning, Director General of the water department at the Ministry of construction, housing and municipalities and advisers to the prime minister.
"The meeting witnessed a review of previous decisions and steps taken by the concerned authorities on the Basra water file, and discussed the mechanisms required to solve the water problem radically,"he added.
After listening to the legal and technical views, al-Sudani, according to the statement,
"to hold a meeting early next week in the presence of representatives of the ministries of Housing and municipalities, electricity, oil and the board of advisors and in the presence of the Austrian consultant ILF;
in order to develop an urgent plan in the completion of an integrated project including desalination of drinking water, electric power generation and water supply to raise the capacity of oil reservoirs.
