Iraq's Ahrar (Liberals) Chairman to convince al-Iraqiya abandon boycott
12/18/2011 1:57 PM

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The Chairman of Iraq's Ahrar (Liberals) Group has said in a meeting with the Chairman of the National Alliance, Ibrahim al-Jaafary, on Sunday that both parties have discussed to play the role of mediator to convince al-Iraqiya Alliance to abandon its recent decision to boycott the Parliament's sessions and to restore its position in the government, according to his office early in the day.
"My group and the National Alliance shall play a major role in convincing al-Iraqiya Alliance to abandon its decision and to restore its position in both government and Parliament," Baha'a al-A'araji, said in a statement, copy of which was received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
He said that "al-Iraqiya's decision shall harm the political process in the country, as well as its citizens, because it won't serve the interest of the people, but would play a passive role againste the process of building the State's institutions."
A'araji stressed that "his group had started dialogues with some of the leaderships of al-Iraqiya Alliance, and his visit to the Chairman of the National Alliance to lay the main lines for the dialogues had been part of such efforts."
Al-Iraqiya Alliance, led by former Prime Minister, Iyad Allawi, had decided last Friday to suspend its attendance of the Parliament's sessions during the forthcoming period, demanding current Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, to change his course in steering the administration of the State's dossier.
Its Spokesman, Haider al-Mulla, has told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on Saturday that "Al-Iraqiya had announced at the end of its Friday meeting at the residence of its leader, Tareq al-Hashimy, with the absence of its Chairman, Iyad Allawi, to suspend the attendance of its Legislatures in the Parliament's sessions and to move to the desk of dialogue, in order to settle the political crisis, along with its denouncement of the militias attacks against northeast Iraq's Diyala Province recently.
