BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The Office of Baghdad's Lord-Mayor has announced on Monday that the year 2012 shall be the year for opening strategic projects in different service sectors, including the 1st Phase of the Grand Rusafa Water Project and projects to treat the waste, along with roads and intersections.
"The Baghdad Mayoralty shall open at the end of the current year, the first stage of the Grand Rusafa Water Project, which is considered the largest in the Middle East," the Lord Mayor's office reported.

"It was implemented by a French Company and two Iraqi companies, and eliminated the minimal quantities of available pure water in Baghdad, and increased the average share of pure water by for Baghdadi citizens to 500 liters daily, thereby sitting within the specifications of the World Health Organization (WHO)," the Lord-Mayor's office added.
"The other pure water projects to be opened shall be the 2nd expansion of East Tigris Water Project, with a daily capacity of 185,000 cubic meters of pure water, to serve the areas of Aadamaiya, Shaab, and parts of the 1st al-Sadr municipality, along with al-Ghadir and New Baghdad districts," the statement highlighted.
The actual capacity for the project will reach 755,000 cubic meters of pure water per day, along with several other projects that would increase the average daily share of a Baghdad citizen to cope with the said WHO specifications.
