Kurdistan Region’s judicial council announced on Sunday having received, from Iraqi Higher Judicial Council, an arrest warrant and a travel ban order against Tarek Al Hashemi. Due to this issue’s sensitivity we will advance further details on a later stage, Kurdistan’s judicial council revealed.
“Higher Judicial Council in Baghdad delivered an arrest warrant against Vice-President Tarek Al Hashemi on account of terrorism charges with a decision prohibiting him from travelling abroad,” spokesman for Kurdistan Region’s judicial council Dadyar Hamid Suleiman told a press conference which Alsumarianews attended.
“Due to the issue’s sensitivity Kurdistan judicial council will be revealing additional details on a later stage,” Suleiman added.
Iraqi Interior Ministry called its counterpart in Kurdistan Region, on Saturday 7, to hand over Vice-President Hashemi and 14 of his bodyguards following arrest warrants issued by Iraqi judiciary.
Iraqi Prime Minister revealed, in an interview with Alsumaria on Friday that Iraqi judiciary threatened to arrest him if he doesn’t execute orders to arrest Vice-President Tarek Al Hashemi.
Interior Ministry displayed, on December 19, confessions of Hashemi’s bodyguards assuring that he personally charged them to execute violent actions. Based on these confessions, Higher Judicial Council issued an arrest warrant for Iraqi Vice-President Tarek Al Hashemi who is now present in Kurdistan Region. Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, for his part, assured on December 24 that he is receiving Hashemi who is ready to appear before judiciary anytime and anywhere in Iraq.
