BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi parliament speaker Usama Nujaifi discussed with UN representative in Iraq Martin Kobler the recent political tensions in the country, according to a UN Iraqi mission in Baghdad today.
The statement, received by Aswat al-Iraq, said that both sides discussed yesterday the latest developments in the country and stressed the importance of solving differences among political leaders through comprehensive dialogues.
Kobler, according to the statement, expressed full support to the suggested national conference as a joint base under the umbrella of partnership and the constitution that adopts the independence of the judicial system and separation among powers.
He stressed the importance of "role of the Iraqi parliament in enhancing democracy", confirming UNAMI's support to "strengthen confidence among all parties at this difficult stage".
