Said the head of the parliamentary citizen, Bayan Jabr said Iraq would lose 2.2 million barrels of oil a day in the event of closure of the Strait of Hormuz. He explained that "the implications of closing the Strait of Iraq would cause a loss of 2.2 million barrels a day, because Iraq exported via Ceyhan 400 thousand barrels only, and 2.2 million through the port of Basra." He added that "Iraq has failed to rehabilitate the strategic line which was built in the eighties of the last century," stressing the need to "rehabilitate this line or build a new line to save the Iraqi people for the next crisis, which will in Iraq in the event of closure of the Strait of Hormuz."
The warnings after an Iranian naval maneuvers of the U.S. naval presence in the Gulf, raising fears of a possible closure of the Straits of Hormuz through which 35% of global oil production source by sea.
Despite these threats, Washington promised to keep warships in the Gulf, saying that Iran has warned Che "its weakness," and show the effectiveness of sanctions on its nuclear program suspicions.
The U.S. General Martin Dempsey considered that Iran is capable of closing the Strait of Hormuz, stressing at the same time, it would be "an act can not be tolerated."
"We have invested in ways that could allow them to close the Strait of Hormuz for a while. For our part, we have invested in the means to ensure that we prevail in such a situation."
