Baghdad (AIN) –The While Bloc called to “limit the terms of the Prime Minister on throne in order to prevent return of tyranny.”
The Secretary General of the White Bloc in Parliament MP Jamal al-Bateikh stated to All Iraq News Agency Monday “We support limiting the terms of the PM since keeping the same person on this post for more than two terms will turn the system into tyranny with a democratic cover.”
“Most of the democratic countries in the world have limitations for the terms of the PM on throne,” he added, noting that “the new system of ruling Iraq after 2003 is democratic where authorities are transferred peacefully through elections,” he stressed.
The Iraqi constitution states that the terms of the President are limited by two terms while the terms of the PM are not limited.
The Legal Committee in Parliament rejected a request submitted by 105 MPs to limit the terms of the PM by two terms only because it is against the articles of the constitution. /End/
