Security Council urges Iraq to continue in the search for missing Kuwaitis

BAGHDAD (Iba) .. Security Council urged the Iraqi government to continue to comply with its obligations in the search for missing Kuwaitis during the invasion in 1990, as well as national property and manuscripts. He called in a statement adopted unanimously by its members, Baghdad to form a national body for this purpose and report its findings to the United Nations.
Council members heard in closed session, to Gennady Tarasov, Special Coordinator of the United Nations for the application of Article 14 of resolution 1284, relating to missing persons and property, the Kuwaiti national. And adopted a recommendation of the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, to extend the financing of a Tarasov six months, as of last month.
The Council welcomed the «joint efforts between Iraq and Kuwait in the framework of the Technical Subcommittee to develop a search mechanism for missing persons».
The United Nations announced that «progress« made in the research, called on Secretary-General of the Iraqi government to take further action to meet its obligations under Security Council resolutions relating to the invasion of Kuwait, noting a lack of progress in the search for the Kuwaiti national archives (the archives).
And submitted to the Security Council that the semi-annual report on the «missing Kuwaitis and nationals of other countries and the issue of Kuwaiti property, including the national archives».
He stressed the need to «find the missing and identify and close their files» after the completion of the organizational and logistical aspects of the search for them. He said that the new style of exploration and excavation missions shared between Iraq and Kuwait, speeding up the search for the missing. (End)
