BAGHDAD - The State of Law Coalition (SLC) has threatened to publish in the media the federal budget vote for the purchase of 350 armored cars for MPs if political parties do not stop using the issue to their advantage.
The SLC expressed its surprise at the position taken by political blocs that voted in favor of the purchase of the cars.
MP from the Kurdish Blocs Coalition (KBC) Hanan al-Fatlawi said it is shameful how the issue of armored vehicles is used in the media, adding that some of those who voted in favor of the purchase are expressing regret.
"So we ask the presidency to present the session in the media to allow the people to know who voted and who didn't vote," he added.
"We in SLC have the full record for the session and we'll have to display it on our channels or cooperating channels with us if the political controversy continues and if the presidency doesn't cooperate with us."
Meanwhile Ahrar bloc MP Jawad al-Shuhaili told AKnews: "We'll present a proposal [from 25 MPs] to amend the budget law... to cancel the paragraph for the purchase of armored vehicles to end the controversy about this issue."
He added: "If the parliamentary blocs were honest about not voting on the purchase of armored vehicles then they should support this proposal."
The Iraqi Council of Representatives voted in its meeting last Thursday to buy 350 armored vehicles for its members at a cost of 50 to 60bn IQD ($43 - $51m) from the 2012 budget.
The KBC earlier accused political parties of feigning their dislike for the purchase of armored cars for MPs, despite the fact that the purchase received a majority vote in the Council of Representatives.
